Management Training Bureau- Zimbabwe's industry classroom
Established in 1984 under the Zimbabwe Manpower Planning and Development Act (Chapter 28:02) with a clear mandate to provide management skills development programmes, in-house training and consultancy services that meet the needs of all sectors of the economy in Zimbabwe, the Management Training Bureau (MTB) is repositioning itself to just doing that under a dynamic business environment.
The current business environment presents numerous opportunities particularly in the area of skills development as the country seeks to ramp up productivity and capacity across all the key sectors of the economy, especially in industry and commerce which suffered massive skills flight at the height of the economic crisis in the last decade. Industry and commerce needs to reskill its employees in various areas, especially customer relationship management and leadership development and this is where the MTB is well-placed to beindustry's classroom.
Over the years, the MTB, with generous financial support from ZIMDEF, has made significant investments in infrastructure development which is critical in supporting its mandate. Its modern teaching, boarding and conference facilities at Msasa, Harare give it a competitive advantage over rivals as a truly dedicated one-stop provider of training and conference services. The institution also boasts of the largest database of dedicated trainers and consultants in its expanding training and consultancy services portfolio.
As part of its strategic repositioning to exploit emerging opportunities in the external environment, the MTB has adopted a proactive approach in which it engages with stakeholders to anticipate their needs and structure appropriate training interventions to meet these needs. To that extent, the MTB has identified training and consultancy opportunities associated with the economic empowerment initiatives as well as play an enabling role in promoting and nurturing entrepreneurship, combating environmental degradation and supporting cross-border investments through language training.
To be able to deliver on its mandate, the MTB is targeting growth through strategic alliances with other players in the delivery of management skills development programmes, in-house training and consultancy services that meet the needs of all sectors of the economy in Zimbabwe and the entire SADC region. To that extent, the MTB has partnered with the Bulawayo-based School of Hospitality and Tourism in commercialising part of its Msasa premises into hotel training school in support of the tourism and hospitality sector.
Indeed, at MTB we not only depend on existing competitive advantages but thirst to create new ones through continuous improvement, innovation, adaptation, customization and a culture of doing it right the first time, every time!
